But, of course, we
don’t celebrate it anymore, do we? The
reason is simple. Christ fulfilled
it. The Passover pointed to what Jesus
would do to save sinners from eternal punishment. The reason God was so adamant about its
continual celebration wasn’t because of the ritual itself. No, it was because God requires faith in
Christ. Consider these words from Psalm
51:
O
Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.
And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.
For
You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You do not delight in burnt offering.
You do not delight in burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—these, O God, You will not despise.
